Tūruapō Astronesian 3000
Textiles tell stories, hold histories, perform with, and for, the wearer. In this work, Metiria links new world orders, Afrofuturism with Māori whakapapa and manawahine. What if the Universe was first navigated by Polynesians, what if Māori occupied space?
Many thanks to Chris Hansen, Alex Whitaker, Tania Turei, Dell McLeod, Bert Holmes, Jessica Latton, Moana Wesley and Catherine Schroder for their collaboration. Thanks also to Tiki Tane for the use of his song Tangaroa in the film.
